Bad Connection to Servers

So starting this week whenever I connect to a public server I lag up every 3 min or so; but when I connect to private server its fine. Is it my wireless connection? Is valve telling me to stop pubbing? Should I just go outside?

i had the same problem, my internet was F U C K I N G around for about a month in pubs. My in would go up into the thousands. Ironic this was only happening to me when i joined 33 tic servers so if at all possible join "good" pubs........COUGH.

If you have a decent inernet connection and are still experiencing these lag spikes look into a better router. When I first started TF2 I had a linksys 54mbit/s B and upgraded to the EXTREME MIMO Super G 104 Mbit Gaming Wireless router and have seen a drastic ecrease in lag and lag spikes. I believe that my decrease in lag is mainly from the fact that my new router has the words EXTREME, as well as SUPER G in the name.... Obviously the more amazing words in the name the better the router. But yes, get a better router after messing around with your internet settings does nothing, I the long run if you plan on using wireless for an extended period of time it is a gret investment.

or you can get a $20 wired router

Yes. Wires ftw.

yea its dsl, router is provided by AT&T ; part of a TV/Phone/DSL package so I cant really swap out for a wired router since its all in one box. Lag spikes have stopped since I switched drivers, but I can only connect to about 30 public servers with below a 100 ping; and again private servers are fine.

if you have a speedtouch modem, try this:

The very last solution fixed it for me. The problem could be very similar even if you don't have a speedtouch.
