When was this decided? "Pro" granary is garbage and most of the American teams were fine with the newer granary. The new granary allows for some diversity in strats while the old one almost forces teams into the 2 scout 2 soldier 1 demo lineup so they can get to middle quickly. Just because the Euros run this map doesn't mean we need to.
Furthermore, the newer granary was unique as it is the only push map that doesn't allow fighting before the round begins, pro_granary another well/badlands map.
Pro_granary was the most popular match map before Valve decided to add the gates, a move that was widely criticized by the competitive community considering the fight at middle was one of the more popular openings on any cp map in the game.
It hardly limits strategy, it just makes the strategy different. Plenty of teams still successfully use heavies on the map at middle in Europe, for example.
Instead of the massive spamfest of the current granary, pro_granary actually allows players to show some individual skill at the start of the map.
It definitely limits strategy. If pyro wasn't such a terrible class to begin with, it would be plausible to run the class on the current granary (same could be said for engy and spy). Besides, we already have badlands where the teams can get to mid much like the old granary. Well has it's own nuances of fighting on the trains pre-round. Why not keep the current granary with everyone at the middle to start?
We need a poll to see how many of the current players would rather keep the current granary.
Yeah, if pyro/engineer/spy weren't such terrible/situational classes, they could be run on a lot of maps. They are not going to be worthwhile on granary no matter what version it is, and that's a class problem, not a map issue.
If you're going to argue in favor of cp_granary, at least make a sensible argument. No one would run any of those classes at middle on either version of the map in a halfway competitive situation, so going back to the way it was will hardly limit anything.
Completely agree with #5 pro-gran limits strategy for the mid-fight. However, it does put a bit more emphasis on individual skill than the new gran. One major issue (whether it be good or bad) with pro-gran is that if you lose your 2 scouts or 1scout +demo early on (or all 3) at the start, it's going to be nearly impossible to contest for your heavy classes.
It really is quite a difficult choice and I think you would find that having a poll would indicate very similar thoughts.
i think that the current granary is just a huge spam fest in the beginning. By running the pro version of granary it allows 'good' scouts / who ever else can get to mid fast enough a chance to get a pick or two off on the opposing scouts, which will ease the clustering in middle. I think that it definitely allows individuals to show their skill and could stop the boring / typical fights in mid.
The thing I hate about pro granary is using 1/5th of my ammo rjing to mid and the idiot demoman who uses 2 of 36 stickies always takes the ammo pack. Jackass. :(
Honestly, though, why not play both? They are both good maps.
If cevo isn't filled with a bunch of amateur hour scrubs who know nothing about the game they will either have both maps in rotation OR ask each team leader in each league what map they would prefer, but I don't have high hopes for either to happen.
Both maps are cool I guess, but pro_granary has an interesting strategy where you have to rely on each individual class, as it is scouts vs scouts first, then demos + scouts vs demos + scouts, then combos.
Honestly, both maps are fine, but I guess I could see teams complaining about the pro version if their scouts couldn't win vs the other scouts off the initial spawns. :p
I have a slight preference for pro_granary, though.
cp_pro_granary in cevo?

But there are too many newfags that don't know how to play the old granary and just QQ about it.
