Here is a cfg I made for Quake 4. It tones down the graphics a great deal for fps. You will have to tweak the net settings yourself to fit your connection and probably the sound depending on your card as well.

Rename joeker.cfg to autoexec.cfg and place it in your q4base of q4max directory.

In console type "exec autoexec.cfg" and then "vid_restart" to make any video changes apply.

Use this at your own discretion and always be sure to backup your cfg.

*will not work if your Quake 4 config is read only*

Other features:

-enables console with only "~"
-gets rid of gun model

10 fps change is useless..unless allow the "cvar" net_allowcheats 1 to use r_singlelight xx
maybe server take the Dr4ch's FPS mappack will be helpful.

how come i cant auto exec the cfg in console, it just says unable to exec :(

make sure it is in the directory of the mod you are using

installed your config and without textures everything is black except gun models on floor and jump pads,etc, any idea why?

Must be something with the lighting. Different video cards handle it differently. Try different settings of r_lightdetaillevel and vertex lighting (q4max)

i just tried his config. had same black issues. seemed to be vertex issue. man joeker, i dunno how u use shift to jump. I was all discombobbed playin around with yer controls. =P
