Quake: ClanBase announces EuroCup XVI Season

By: Joe Szymkowicz - Published September 17, 2007 at 1:21 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Along with 11 other tournaments, Clanbase announced the next season of Quake 4 EuroCup and OpenCup competitions today.
Today, the ClanBase organization annunced its Quake 4 EuroCup and OpenCup tournaments. Already, the signups list for OpenCup includes some big names, such as:

United Kingdom HELL
France falcuma
Sweden NaAani
Netherlands geo
Italy ob3n
Germany zei0

Though the North American Quake 4 community seems to be in somewhat disarray after the the WSVG's decision to discontinue it's competitive LAN series, the European scene is still very much alive, mainly due to online tournaments and competitions like these. Nonetheless, as more competitors signup for the event, you can expect the tournament to only get more exciting.

One aspect missing from this season in the OpenCup and EuroCup events is the Quake 3 category. At time of writing, no representatives from ClanBase were available for comment, but the decision most likely had something to do with the number of forfeited matches due to noshows that plagued much of last season.

Signups are open now and will close September 23rd. Following that, invitations will be announced on the ClanBase site and on their IRC channels:

#clanbase.Q4 on QuakeNet
#eurocup.Q4 on QuakeNet

Expect more news as the time for invitations draws closer.
