With the second group stage now behind us we head on into the playoffs of what has been an intriguing tournament so far. Top favorites av3k and Cooller are still standing but highly-rated stars such as GaRpY, forever and k1llsen are no longer in contention. The final two playoff stops are instead filled by two players who, despite their glorious history, came into this tournament almost as underdogs. Winz and PURRI are up against it once more as they take on two of the best Quake 4 players in the world but after making it this far, who could write them off now?

PURRI faces av3k in the first semi final and is faced with what seems like an impossible task. Av3k has been in great form this weekend and has made every opponent so far look very ordinary. The second semi final is somewhat less clear cut and sees Cooller take on reigning ESWC champion winz. On paper this should be an easy win for the Russian but with winz on home soil it would be foolhardy to completely rule out an upset. Winz came into this event as a complete underdog and the world's best players now stand between him and an incredible victory, déja vu anyone?
