oPlaiD's interview with Jared "vespillo" Sagers about NoX's match this week against Grassroots.
Give me a little background about your team and how it has been doing recently?
NoX`vespillo: Our Team is a few guys that have really been all around the
map in the 9-10 months that halo has been out. Konsept, Skiller and myself started out on
Goodfellas which was a ut2k3 team. When Halo was pretty new and pubbing was fun Konsept
was in a pub and like usual getting beat up on and talking loads of trash, this time he
was trash talking Ryo and eventually a challenge arose from Team Reality. This was gonna
be the first pub challenge that reality ever lost, after that we pubbed together a few
times and decided to merge as Goodfellas was quickly becoming inactive and we would
of disappeared if Reality said no. Once we merged (which was around CPL time) it was too
late to go to CPL and some people had finals to take, so we were unable to attend. After
CPL we changed names a few times to get sponsors and ended up adding Roach from the old
Uber Fraggers and finally Reflection from Vindication towards end of season 1 untill we
became the Team noX of today.
Little changes have been made to your team since your succesful 2nd place season
last year. What have you done to improve a team that barely fell short last season, and as
CPL is coming soon?
NoX`vespillo: Our Only real change was the addition of Reflection to the
roster which was just around the time of roster locks last season, since then we have only
had time to grow as teammates and fine tune our teamwork and strategies while a few other
teams have made roster changes and moved a few people around. One of our biggest strengths
is that myself, Konsept, Ryo and Gr1ftr3 have been together as a team since before the
last CPL.
Many people have ridiculed NoX for your easy schedule this season. How have you
kept motivated with an easier schedule, and how will it affect your preparation for your
first major match?
NoX`vespillo: Our easy schedule was just a payoff to a few key admins,
really, money gets you everywhere these days :D
Honestly with Gr1ftr3 and Ryo away in korea from week 2 to week 6 any ridicule we have
recieved for our easy schedule has been easily shrugged aside, we desperatly needed an
easier schedule while our Korean brothers were away from us, so we got very lucky on that
and don't really care if it bothers other people. We just got lucky this time. As far as
motivation goes having the two brothers in korea for a month is all the motivation you
need to come back to halo fiercly, since they have returned we have had 3-4 scrims a night
and feel more then prepared for our first tough match.
Could you give a quick list of your starting roster and each of their biggest
strengths?
NoX`vespillo: Our Roster will consist of:
Reflection who is a great pistoler and an all around player and strat maker.
Ryo who has also has a great pistol and communicates very effectivly.
Gr1ftr3 who is our field sniper and pistoler as well as in game leader for our team.
Myself
Konsept our biggest and most important asset in the field, without whom we are just a team
of pistol whores who couldn't get a score worth anything.
What do you think are Gr's strengths as a team, and how are you preparing for them
this week?
NoX`vespillo: Well Grassroots has great teamwork which isn't quite as
emphasized on Blood Gulch, We are simply doing as we usually do and count on our aim and
basic (yet effective) strats, combined with an excessive amount of scrimming to help get
our teamwork back together again. As I've said before we are quite lucky and getting Gr on
Blood Gulch instead of a map like Danger Canyon may be just the amount of luck we need to
get us through this week.
If you could pick one player on Gr to have a bad game this week, who would it be
and why?
NoX`vespillo: Well I'm not sure who does all the capping for Gr but if I
would have anyone have a bad game it would definatly be the all important capper, if one
of their pistolers went 200-0 in 5 mins and the capper couldn't get through, it wouldn't
matter, so if the capper has a bad day that can only help.
What is your lineup for CPL?
NoX`vespillo: Ryo, Reflection, Roach, Gr1ftr3, Konsept and myself, right
now we are bringing 6 to The CPL as a part of our official lineup.
What teams are you watching out for the most, and how do you think your team will
perform at CPL?
NoX`vespillo: Well one of problems of being as inactive as we have been
this last month with our 2 members gone we havn't been able to really keep up with what
teams are up and coming, so we are just lookin out for the teams that have really shown
their stuff like Wat¿ and their recent strong addition of my homie seclusion <3 and
Xeno who gave us a good shock last season. Once we get in the byoc at The CPL and
get a few scrims in on lan we'll figure out who we need to fear. Overall everyone of our
members are looking forward to CPL and with us not being able to attend last winter we are
foaming at the mouths to take that top spot, especially now that this may be the last
chance for a halo tourney, so I think whatever happens we will for one have fun, and two
go home satisfied and that's all that matters to us.
Demise, the 2nd placing CPL finisher last Winter, has recently returned to Halo
after a long hiatus playing UT2k4. Do you think they have the time and ability to once
again be a top performer?
Demise has certainly shown that they have the ability time and time again, of that I
have no doubt, and as far as time goes I believe they do have enough time
although it is certainly the minimal amount of "enough time" at this point and
how they utilize that time will make an enormous difference come CPL but the light will
soon enough be shed. One thing that really never goes away is teamwork, and that is one
thing Demise has alot of, now they just need to get their aiming back up to where it was
and I believe they can do that.
What are your thoughts on Halo CE after its recent release? Have you seen any new
maps that have caught your eye as possibilties for competition?
NoX`vespillo: I have slowly and I mean SLOWLY gotten used to CE and it's
leading and I have come around to liking it more and more, as far as the new maps that
have come out I havn't seen anything that I would like to show up in competitive play but
Blood Island is just a plain out fun pub map, I really enjoy playing it. Also Meatlocker
is quite fun. Still waiting to see someone come out with a really good competitive map and
really push the limits on that HEK that we waited so long for.
