Counter-Strike: A page from the playbook of ... Hacker.GM

Hacker Gaming uses a slow diversion into the inside site to keep the defense guessing and takeover the outside site on Train.

Hacker Gaming's performance at the 2006 WSVG World Finals was one of the biggest surprises of the event. While the team had experienced some success playing in China, they were greatly overshadowed by their Korean squad. Entering the event, most people regarded them as simply "the team who lost to wNv at the Chinese event."

Despite beating both fnatic and wNv at the WSVG China event earlier that year, Hacker received little credit and those wins were considered by many to be flukes. When they drew NiP in the first round, most people figured them to be headed for the loser bracket early. However, they destroyed NiP 16-2 on Inferno, and looked ahead to face coL on Train.

In that match, Hacker took control early, keeping fRoD from having the big green and taking eight rounds on offense. They used a series of outer splits along with some slow inner fakes to the outside to keep coL guessing. This strategy will take a look at their inner fake, which they used twice. Once they reversed to the outside, and the second time they doubled back inside.

This is how they executed this strategy

BB - ladder
forever - primary inner attack
K1ngZ - inner awp support
baeseulki - fake alley, mid flank
ZY - secondary inner

This strategy is fairly simple and does not involve any particularly difficult or developed flashes. It starts off with baeseulki heading over to alley and tossing typical antipush flashes and nades. He spams the tribox at the end of alley for a spell before heading over to check on the possible mid push. K1ngZ has some time to kill before he is needed, so he heads over to check out mid and to toss a smoke out and make some presence felt there.

Right from the spawn, ZY, BB, and forever rush into the white halls. BB splits off and heads down the ladder to hold off any pushers or flankers. forever tosses the bomb behind a box for safe keeping before taking up a defensive position holding the stairs with ZY.

Once he is done dicking around in mid, K1ngZ heads into the white halls, and chucks a flash past the stairs to allow forever to peak the box halls. ZY helps by peaking and flashing deep towards upper.

When the box halls is deemed safe, forever begins the assault of lower by smoking and flashing down the ramp. ZY also chucks a smoke down the ramp. forever heads down the ramp, and tosses his last flash against the hitch on the three train, blinding any close site defenders.

K1ngZ takes his AWP over to upper, and peaks out clearing to sunman ramp and Z. forever takes a wide angle on the site, hopping underneath the three train and peaking. He then rushes deeper into the site, all the way up to the Z halls entrance.

ZY tosses his flash deep into the site and pops up and down the ladder on the three train, before making way for K1ngZ (who has made his way there from upper) to AWP it instead. Once satisfied the fake has been successfully sold, ZY retreats to the stairs, and K1ngZ heads to the base of lower ramp, leaving forever behind.

A few moments after the attack on the inner site begins, baeseulki slowly works his way out of mid, clearing his way to the big ladder and up into the tower. Once he is up there, he holds the Z halls. Likewise, BB clears his way out of the ladder room, smoking off the Z halls for the bomb to cross to the site.

ZY grabs the bomb on his way to the ladder. He heads in between the five and six trains, moving towards the site. Once close, he flashes and nades deep towards the end of the bomb train and moves on to plant. K1ngZ takes up a defensive spot AWPing near the ladder train towards CT spawn. BB hops underneath pop dog, holding Z.

As you can see, this strategy works best when you are able to get a handful of entry frags inside. However it is still effective so long as you are able to work deep enough that some of the inner players are at least pushed back and are waiting for defenders to rotate to assist them. Once the fake is sold, their are several possible directions to take the strat. You can hit outside like in this example, or double back to the inside using a few players to distract outside.
