Call Of Duty: MavLP leaves MoBdeep, joins x3o

By: Kyle Feeley - Published July 01, 2008 at 2:58 PM EDT - Writer Archive
In a shocking move following the success MoBdeep had at NERV, top fragger Mav has jumped ship and found a new home with x3o.
A surprise third place finish at NERV, an incendiary blowout over their brother team, and a renewed sense of confidence and purpose…MoBdeep were on the fast track to the top. Or so they thought. Within days of his incredible LAN performance that could be argued as being the best for any individual at NERV, Stephen “MavLP” Groat said his goodbyes and got on board with x3o as their new fifth. The timing of this move coincides with the CEVO-P placement tournament which will determine a team’s status for CEVO’s second season. While MoBdeep must win tonight and tomorrow night to gain entry, x3o secured their position last night with a 13-7 victory over jCp.

It may seem surprising that Mav would part ways with his team following their greatest success, but personal interests and personnel conflicts play equally important roles in a team’s overall contentedness. Mav explains “I started to look at x3o about a week before NERV. They always had quite strong leadership with griM_ staying with his team for a long, long time. They have consistent players, but lacked the completion with a very solid 5th player.” Indeed, x3o hit a few roster snags in the week leading up to NERV and had to bring Jesse “NRv” Daly in to ring. Mav continues: “It may have shocked people that I would leave MoBdeep after the excellent performance at NERV, but things just weren't fitting for me there. I felt like there was a lack of dedication and good comms, both of which I am finding better at x3o.”

His words regarding the overall stability of x3o.CoD cannot be denied. For better or for worse, the core of this club has been competing together for years. Team leader, Rob “griM_” Koster, adds: “We were looking for a solid 5th before LAN and didn’t find one until actually going there and looking through the players. Steve "mav" Groat stood out from the crowd and, in my opinion, should have gotten the MVP of the LAN. I guess you can say everything else fell into place and we look forward to competing at the highest level now. Welcome to the family steve!” Speaking of highest level, x3o will be competing in CEVO-P, TGL-P, and plans to attend future high profile LAN events.
