America's Army: CAL Season 9 in the Horizon

By: Dave Munro - Published April 20, 2008 at 2:22 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Season 9 of CAL for America's Army is set to get underway in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned for official start dates.

CAL-AA NA Sign-ups Open

For a link to the CAL site click here

A Thread was started to get an idea of how many teams are participating in CAL this season. About 20 teams posted thus far, but a forum post is not necessary, teams will just have to sign up their team as per an admin's response.

CAL|AprilP - All teams wishing to participate need to get signed up. Five players on a roster with their GUIDs is mandatory to be a team. The sooner you get your teams ready the sooner we can start. Any questions, get on irc or pm an admin.

Official start dates and move-ups/move-downs between CAL-i, CAL-m, CAL-o have not been announced yet.

Teams which were in CAL season 8 at either the Invite or Main level likely won't need to sign up again, but make sure your GUID & handles are correct, and have any new members of your team join the roster.

The main division will definitely need some restructuring as 5 of the 10 teams are no longer active. CAL|AprilP took the liberty of removing 2 of those teams (2n Gaming and Volatilis Infensus) and the other 3 (Team unRestricted, Stupid Arses Running w/ Scissors, and Notorious Gaming) will also be removed unless they contact CAL expressing interest in having a team again this season. We can expect a couple of teams from open to move up to main, and maybe a couple of experienced teams added in as well (Instruments of Allah, and misChief come to mind).

CAL-AA NA Season 8 Champions

CAL's Season 8 finished in February-March of this year for the 3 different levels. The finals map was Pipeline, which is one of the favorites in competition, and made for some good finals matches.

CAL Invite Champs - overRated

overRated took down Audigy 8-6 for the title. I could not find a write-up or logs, but it was a very close match. oR capitalized on some mistakes by Audigy on defense. oR took the final round of the match to secure the win and claim another CAL-i title. CAL Invites became a division only 3 seasons ago, with CAL Main being the top level before that. overRated won the first season of CAL-invites, lost the 2nd season to Audigy in a match which was later overturned, and won this 3rd season.

Audigy roster:
United States -aud.Jonny-
United States -aud.Kilatoby-
Canada -aud.Proton-
United States -aud.itsmofo!-

overRated roster:
United States [oR.epic]
United States [oR.scarface]
Canada [oR.osiris]
United States [oR.nexington] / [oR.aziatik] / [oR.krayzieguy] ?

CAL Main Champs - Even Flow

Even Flow beat up on Team unRestricted 8-3 in a match which was casted on E-Rev TV. It had potential to be a great match, but unR's lack of preparation definitely showed. They had been too distracted by COD4 and hadn't scrimmed at all. unR did a main pump room camp for the most part with agentryan roaming, he was carrying the team, but eFlow took 4 of the 7 rounds on assault which is rather disastrous. Even Flow dominated on D and won all four rounds to complete the victory and earn them their first title.

Even Flow roster:
Canada [eFlow]gillvic
United States [eFlow]commiekid
Canada [eFlow]terror
United States [eFlow]obLiv

Team unRestricted roster:
United States -unR.Maynard-
United States -unR.muzzl3
United States -unR.GuNNy-
United States -unR.agentryan-

Match Logs

CAL Open Champs - Letalis Captoris

Letalis Captoris beat Fragweiser in OT, 10-7. Fragweiser had the edge early on taking 3 rounds on assault before halftime. They were not able to follow it up with a strong Defense, and gave the 3 rounds back. In overtime, Lc held their 2 defense rounds, then followed it up with a winning round on assault to take the win and the championship!

Letalis Captoris roster:
United States Lc^Divinus
United States Lc^Sorrow.!
Canada Lc^mindz-
Canada Lc^Iso

Fragweiser roster:
United States .!.$corp!an-
Canada .!.Sniper
United States .!.Reaper
United States .!.Pr0ph3t

CAL|Nakamura - I will be taking over the application process again. If you have filled out an application prior to today and have not been denied or have not been contacted in a while, please contact me via email or IRC if you are still interested in a position with CAL. If you have not filled out an application, now is the time to do so. When submitting applications, please be detailed and not fill out just the bare minimums as it tends to make me want to deny your application out right. As I have stepped away from the AA community for some time now, I will be running all admin applications through people who I feel are better in-tuned to the AA community.
